Default goofy question on engine fins??

on a new harley the engine fins look almost like they are diamond cut, never could figure out how to keep em looking that way, once they dull I have tried never dull, a dremel polishing pad with polishing rouge which worked best but a messy job, any secrets to keep em looking new? these new bikes run sooo good I think about the weird stuff.

sidebar:

a rough finish sheds heat better than a smooth polished finish, more surface area

Yeah, I'd like to know how to fix that as well. The fins on the left side of mine are a bit splotchy. It's not the end of the world, but I like my bikes to be purty I tried an emory cloth and it made no difference at all.

I'd try a toothbrush (or something similar) along with your favourite metal cleaner....Should help.

Hit em with a small stiff bristle stainless brush, go with the grain (original tooling marks). Once clean you can seal them with paste wax, to prevent further oxidation.

Must be a climate thing. I got over 100k on my bike and it lives outside all year long and my fins look like new?

I had good luck using mothers aluminum polish and a rag. Almost impossible to get every fin and it will also leave a white residue on it that is next to impossible to remove. Don't get sloppy with the polish and the end result should be good.

Once a year with 0000 steel wool with Turtle Wax on it. They will be very shiny.
