Normal for 07-09, fifth gear is straight cut. Redline heavy shock proof quiets it down some. It will also quiet down as you get more mileage on the bike. 40k on my 07 and it's now at a level that it is just loud enough that I know I'm in fifth.
I had a mix of Syn3 and severe gear 75/90 and noticed some whine in fifth. Second oil change flushed out the rest of the Syn3 and it toned down a little but it is still there. Mine is definately a straight cut gear whine and I am not real worried about it. I would bet Redline will reduce or get rid of the noise altogether. I just turn the radio back on.
Got a good friend building a house in Niceville.
55-60 in fifth is where i usually shift, the 70-75 i mentioned was just seeing if it did it through the entire rpm range.
I hope it does whine at 70-75, as it should tell you to shift to 6th gear at around 55 MPH.
What I would like to add is filling good synthetic oil in the tranny and the primary will sure to reduce the noise, if any, and to have a smoother shifting.

Im running Amsoil as I do in all of my bikes, Im going to give this spectro 6 speed trans oil a try it seems to help alot of people, I just think i would have noticed the whine on one of my other two bikes or on this one within the last 7000 miles but we will see what this oil does, I may just drop it off at the local indy for a second opinion.
I always hear more of a whine in first (it's straight cut, too) By the time I'm in fifth, the wind noise and radio pretty much drowned out the gear whine.
06 SG whines real bad in 4th. Change fluid to mobile 1 syn and it did quiet it down alot but still hear it. Don't know if it's normal but Gunna ride it like every other gear. If it breaks, I'll guess I'll save the money to have it fixed.
