I will soon be purchasing a Mustang seat for my FLTRU. I've narrowed it down between the heated super touring seat w/backrest (79643) and the regular super touring seat w/backrest (79556).

The price difference is roughly $300.

Does anyone have any experience with the heated Mustang seats? My main questions are:

- Do they work well?
- Are they worth the price?
- Do they still work after a few years?
- Can they get wet?

Any help would be apprciated. Thanks...

 

Not as far as I'm concerned it's not, but then I live in Phoenix.

I don't have any specific info on the Mustang heated seat. I will say that I have the heated seat that came on my Road Glide SE and it makes a big difference when it's cold. So if it were me, I would get it. Heated grips and a heated seat will keep you comfortable (and therefore safer) even when it gets pretty chilly.

 

--Yes they work real well.
--Yes they are worth the price, but I live in Wisconsin and ride everyday as long as there is no snow or ice on the roads, 140 miles roundtrip each day. If you live in Phoenix like slhanks, probably not worth the money, unless you have money coming out the orifice planted on the seat.
--They do wear out over time, but I have 20,000 miles in 2 years, and probably half of the time the heat is on.
--Yes they can get wet. I use armor all on my seats so maybe that is helping.

 

I don't know about the Mustang part, but having heat helps a lot when the temp is 20 degrees. Is $300 for rider and passenger? If it is just for the rider you can send the regular seat into Mean City Cycles and have a heater put in for around $150.

 

The Mustang one is a dual zone. Separate controls for rider and passenger.

 

It would be worth it to me! As others have said, heated grips and seat can keep you amazingly warm when you need it! as to the rest, don't have a Mustang so couldn't say. Good luck on the decision!

 

I have a heated corbin, well worth the money!

 

My 2011 RGU has the Mustang Touring, not super touring. We have used the seat last winter and both my wife and I think it works great. We have used it in the rain and in the dry with no issues. The optional settings for heat levels works as advertised and it is much more comfy than the stock seat. My opinion is that it is a wise choice sepecially if your passenger is cold natured like mine!
