3 1/2"s here. Love the sound and performance. Hate that the dip sticks are blocked, easily fixed by wearing a glove. Still look great!

Regarding the sound... The headers alone do not affect the sound of the engine as much as the exhaust cans do. Actually, if you listen to any set of open headers, it will sound the same. Due to the differences in tube length and routing, you may hear a slight sound level (volume) difference. The actual exhaust sounds that we hear are shaped by the exhaust cans. Every manufacturer, makes different sounding exhaust cans. Header style, is mostly subjective on a motorcycle, what we each want it to look like, with the exception of having true duals or 2 into 1 headers. The 2 into 1 pipes do make better torque than having two seperate header pipes (true duals). You have to choose based on your need: Torque, or looks? I prefer the look of two header pipes/2 exhaust cans.
I've heard as many pros as cons for Rinehart pipes/cans. Anyone have any experience with Von Braun headers?

While I agree that the slip-ons have a great deal to do with how the exhaust sounds I disagree with how minimal you feel the header has to do with it. True duals are louder, and in the case of the Rineharts the stepped header design gives a distinct sound to the exhaust system. Also True Duals sound much different from 2-1 systems........

As for the Von Braun, they don't make headers, they sell the S&S head pipe......

You can purchase a true dual header from a few different company's like V&H or Draggos and then still use your Rinehart slip-ons. If you do a search you should be able to find several combination dual header and slip-ons. Personally I like the idea of getting a header that is ceramic coated to help reduce the heat.

They do when the new stock headers have a catalytic converter and the after market ones don't.
