Default 2010 ultra fuel door

Any one know how to get the fuel door open when the key won't unlock it?

when the push botton kit jammed on me*, i was able to release the catch by using a brass feeler on my feeler gauge set.

this is gonna suck for you.

mike

*800 miles from home- middle of nowhere, less than 30 miles gas.

a brass pin which connects the push button to the latch has vibrated out, leaving the mechanism useless. I now have a stock latch with no problems.

the push button kit is a solution to a problem which didn;t exist

What is the reason the key won't unlock it? Is the key the problem? Just to be sure you know that any tubular key will unlock the fuel door, does not have to be yours.

If the lock just won't turn, like already mentioned, a feeler gauge or something similar should be able to get in there and push the mechanism in to release it. They don't fit real tight, so there should be plenty of room to get in there.

Take the seat off, then remove the bolt in front and rear that hold the chrome tank garnish off and release the fuel door latch from underneath.
The entire chrome tank garnish comes off with those two bolts, piece of cake!

mine just did this the other day, i guess it was from riding in the rain, i used a little spray of wd-40 in the key slot and let it set, it finally broke loose. after that i oiled it up good. and will keep an eye on it if it get caught in the rain again. it's nothing but plastic.

I always keep a little smear of dielectric (any water repelling grease will do) on all of my key holes. Helps keep out the moisture and dirt.

When I service bikes I run powdered graphite lube through every single lock on the bike with the key working it back and forth a couple of times. Just another "overlooked" part of a service that dealers generally skip.

Unless you lube it occasionally, it can freeze up on you as well.
