Default Heritage bars on a Road King Last night

I installed the Heritage bars on my RK last night..

First thoughts; I am not real sure that I like the angle the bars put on my wrist and I know I have some final adjusting to do with the bars, and the brake and clutch handle.. Planning on a pretty good trip saturday, then I will know.

The install was very easy, like a 1 out of 5 (5 being the hardest) I found a step by step (with pictures) here on this forum on how to do it.

Is there another bar that can be used with out changing the cables? Like a 10" Ape?

The Heritage for RK bars need to be layed back to make the wrist angle tolerable, rock the bars back until the grips level out.
I went with the 56569-09 Heritage bars, these can be run at a similar angle to the forks without that weird grip angle issue. Do a search for 56569-09 and you'll find some comparisons. The 56569-09 bars are max height for stock brake/clutch cable lengths (roughly 11.5" tall baby apes)
The Heritage for RK bars positioned were they'll be comfortable reduce reach quite a bit more than the actual '09+ Heritage bars (56569-09) I have, riders shorter than average will likely favor the Heritage for RK bars, while average to taller than average riders will probably favor the '09+ Heritage bars.

Did you install the Heritage Style Bars? Just did mine too. The wrist angle will be better when you bring the bars back closer to you. Don't try and align the bars with the forks, that angle is horrible.

Yes, they are the Heritage style bars and I have them pretty close to the angle of the forks and yes the angle is bad. I was thinking that lowering them might help. I will move them tonight! (thanks)

Thanks for the information on the 569 bars too, i am going to look into that if I cant make these others work.

Ive got the 'style' bars on mine now and Ive never found the wrist angle to be an issue. I had to pull em towards me as far as they would go for the reach ( Im 5-8"). I really dont like bars that deviate from the angle of the forks, it doesnt flow to me. Im going to a 12" KW ape and hoping for more pullback and flow angle.

I think if you pull the bars back you will like the angle a lot better. Also keep in mind the 569 bars mentioned will require modification. You will need to cut notches in the bar for the TBW and also cut a hole for the wires to exit.

You've got to pull them back until the grips are parallel with the ground. Comfy that way, but they won't be inline with the forks.

I tried the "Heritage Style" & hated them in any position. I also went with the Softail Heritage bars & they feel great to me. Good luck.

Got em on my 2011 RK and like others said i angled them back just slightly. Huge improvement over the stock bars. I put 10k on last year and loving it.
