Painting slip on and heat shield
#11
so…. I finally got some paint. VHT header paint. going to use grey primer and than black for the outer.. Just got to pick up my bike tomorrow and the SE slip on should be here tomorrow as well. Might be able to start on the sanding and painting tomorrow.
I am planning on using the old trusted BBQ grill to bake for the curing process. supposed to bake at 250 for 30 min, 400 for 30 min and 600 for 30 min. I don’t know if i can get the BBQ up to 600 if not may have to skip that step or wait until the wife is asleep and try the oven.
Also got the HAWG wings in. I ordered them in black. I attached a picture so that you can see the before picture and you can also see the approximate size.

Started sanding today, Put some tape over the logo and sanded around it. Hoping that it will remain a chrome logo. It will either work and look awesome or it will look like pooo worse case re-sand and re-paint.
Finished painting. Going to have to let it sit and see if I can install and cure it in the morning.

finished this morning. Couple of notes. The paint scratched real easy during instal. led me to believe that maybe I should of waited longer between primer coat and exterior coat. Currently working on the curing phase. Decided to follow directions for on the vehicle curing process. Idle for ten cool for ten, idle for twenty cool for twenty, ride for twenty cool for twenty. If worse comes to worse after my rolling thunder trip i will have to sand and paint again.

Looked great. Went through curing process. Than It started flaking off of the end of the Slip on. Going to remove everything than try to sand with 80 grit. Previously used 150 grit. Also I will wait at least 3 hours between the primer and the black. Also will try to very lightly sand the primer coat.
so starting all over again….

I had one part towards the end of the slip on that kept peeling off. Heat shields seemed ok. I traded my bike in on Monday for a RGU, Dealer did not say anything about it… I would ilk to try it again with new bike however Im going to put it on the back burner.
