Hot weather riding gear help (pants, jacket?)
#41
Be careful buying mesh gear. I've seen cheap stuff melt into a guy's skin when he went down.
I was joking about the shorts and flipflops earlier.
I have been riding in Texas heat for 35 years now on the street and I have never had any fancy gear to keep me cool. I'm not knocking it but just never have had it. I wear a white long sleeve t-shirt, jeans, boots, and my half helmet. Wear lots of sunscreen. I carry a cooler in my saddlebag with water and beer (mostly beer). Stop under a shady tree every so often. Stop at bars and ice houses often. I leave extra early and try to avoid riding in the heat of the day. You're in God's country in central Texas, just pull over and jump in one of those cool lakes, rivers, or creeks if you get too hot. We usually carry our bathing suits just in case. Of course you could always stop at hippie hollow and you won't need the suit.

I live in Phoenix and my clothing of choice for when the temps get over 100 degrees is a long sleeve white shirt with a sweat wicking technology, water absorbant cooling vest over that with either a mesh jacket or perforated leather vest over the cooling vest to slow down the evaporation. I wear a 3/4 helmet with face shielf to keep the hot air from my head and face. Keep the lowers and side wind deflectors on to divert as much hot air away from me as possible. Once the air temp gets above 98.6 degrees then that air begins to increase body temp not cool you off. The more of your body that you can protect from that air the better off you'll be. Make frequent stops to drink lots of water and simply get in out of the heat.

During hot humid weather I wear underarmor type shirt and shorts, jeans, mesh jacket.
Have a sheepskin on the seat, no problems feeling connected. Have friends that use the beads and swear by them.
Keep moving thru the air, it'll keep ya dry.

Actually, the temperature where air movement across your skin will actually heat your body is 93 degrees.

Just ordered items from below place for my wife and I for TX to Sturgis trip this year. We will wear it under jeans, chaps, and jackets. The important thing to remember when wearing Self-wicking undergear is that it must touch the skin to work. Yeah, it's opposite in thinking.. Will be looking at Tourmaster and First Gear Mesh Jackets within next 30 days or so.
