Had a '01 EGC I had bought used, 3 years old at the time, which had the same problem. Battery was always running down no matter how often I charged it. Changed batteries after 2 years, same problem. Had the dealer look at it and they could not find any issues with the bike. Solved the problem by trading in the bike for a new one.

battery is a year old. when the bike is running the battery reads 14.7v. the relay is clicking on. i switch the relays up and the same problem is happening, so the relay is good. i am going to check through all of the wires that run to the voltage regulator from the main breaker. all of those run under the bike, maybe at one point from lifting it up with one of those craftsman bike lifts i might have crimped a line.

i am going to try the full charged battery and let it sit for 12 hours as you suggested tonight.

I believe you have a single phase charging system, therefore regulator bleed could be a possibility. Pull the reg/stator plug, probe with a test light on the reg side, if the test light...'lights', the reg is bleeding and needs to be replaced.

would the regulator bleed enough to charge the ecm relay?

I'd do the test, but if you want to, disconnect the reg from the stator and see if your ECM relay still actuates.

The easiest way to check a battery is to have it fully charged and then disconnect the cables for a day or so and see if it holds the charge.
