Default 2000 Electra Glide Standard voltage questions

I just bought a 2000 Electra Glide standard with 8200 miles. On the 75 mile ride home I noticed the volt gauge read a little over 14 volts when cruising around 2500 rpm. Today I took off the tour pack and seat and the battery is a 5 year old HD battery.
I checked the voltage at the terminals and it read exactly 12 volts with the battery unhooked. I put it back in and started the bike and at a fsat idle between 1500 and 2000 rpm on the gauge and my meter it reads 14 volts. with a little more rpm 2500 it stays at 14.25 volts. Is this norml or to high?
Last year I had a voltage regulator go out on my Dyna 300 miles from home and luckily the guys at Road 6 Customs in Geneva Nebraska had one and I was on my way. I dont want that to happen again.
What do you guys think? Any suggestions?
Thanks,
ccnova

My '11 UC seems to run pretty high too, but from what I've read on the boards here and what the dealer told me it's nothing to worry about. Mine is usually between 14.5 and 15v according the motor company's high quality dash gauge. This is at anything above 1500 rpm. Like you, I've had regulators go south on my dyna over the years and I've been concerned about this new bike for the same reason. Nothing like the smell of an overcooked battery.
