I have a 2011 EG Ultra with 4500 miles. The best mpg I have get since I bought it in September is 36 mpg. Of course coming home from OBX Bike Week yesterday 2 up with a loaded pack on the sissy bar I got 34 mpg. It was about 58 and windy so that plus the loaded pack maybe I should be happy with 34....

Like you I only get 40 or so here in So Cal, but I've only seen those higher MPG's (well over 40 mpg) in other states, never here in CA. That's why I say the regional fuel blends must vary is all I can figure. I've noticed this more than once on my annual cross-country trip from San Diego to Illinois that I take every June. It shocks me too and it's frustrating to see as it's a dramatic difference (50 and 51 mpg's on consecutive tanks of gas!!).

True, sustained higher speed will drastically reduce your MPG, car, motorcycle, whatever. Once I was forced to follow a moving van through 5 stated at 55 MPH max. I was stunned to get 26 MPG on a lousy minivan on that trip!

got to love it,op is on a 02,not a 6 speed, not geared stupid tall, not with throttle numbing efi. as far as i know the 02 is geared much lower than even 04 much less a 07,efi has a built in throttle lagg it doesn't respond to every bump his carb has a accelerator pump that squirts in fuel with every jolt on the throttle hand.and his 02 isn't tuned epa lean.

I'm keeping a watch to stay under 3K and I am running a can of Sea-Foam through as well. The Sea-Foam, in the drive to the office, has made it run like a raped ape.......

As many have said, you have a relatively low geared 5 speed, my '06 EFI 5 speed does pretty well mileage wise at about 65 or below, anything above that is just sucks the gas. Your carb is not as efficient as EFI and your running a little rich, so I would say your fuel economy is right about where it should be. If you want more mileage, lean it out some more, keep the RPMs lower, or get a 6 speed gear box for ther slab.
