Default what's the deal with gel coat?

I am looking at a detchable fairinng for my vivid black RK. a lot of them come with gelcoat, It looks like black...will i have to paint it? does it match vivid black? thatnks for the info.

Only you can decide if you want it painted, it depends on how well it matches your bike, and how happy you are with the gel coat finish. Most gel coat fairings I've seen look better when they're painted. It probably won't be a perfect match for your vivid black, but it might be close enough for you.

Gel Coat? I did not know that ABS plastic had gel coat. Fiberglass yes but not ABS.

Black..... black is black!
What you might notice is a bit difference in texture (orange peel) but if you look real close
every panel on your bike can have a bit different texture in the finish of the paint.
Gelcoat is tuff stuff, it's used on boats, campers.....
Gelcoat could very well hold up much better to road rash!

Gelcoat is a resin that has color added to it,it does not need to be painted.
There are special waxes and rubbing compounds availible for gelcoat.

The color probly will not match perfectly and the finish may have imperfections.
