Default RK Classic Purchase Question

I'm going shopping tomorrow for a new RK Classic. My first HD. Couple of questions, if I may.

1. Big Dealer or smaller for best deal? (Rossmeyer, Orl, or SpaceCoast)
2. Invoice & MSRP on RK Classic (no trade in)
3. Can I get a classic with the hard bags instead of the leather? I want the spoked wheels and white wall tires.
4. Worth having the dealer install Rhinehart exhaust at time of delivery and include it in financing?

Thanks for input and wish me luck!

My opinion and what I did.....buy used with low miles and build what you want. Mine is an RKC I got for 10K with 4000 miles on it and an extended warranty. It had the Ness Big Sucker and V&H True Duals on it already. I have added a lot.....including hard bags (sold the old ones for the same price) and Rinehart 4"ers (sold the V&H's for over half of the price of the Rineys). I wouldnt have the dealer add anything and finance it it. Do it yourself and sell the stock stuff to regain your investment. Just my .02¢

Road King Classic's don't come with typical hard bags but are easily changed as I did on my '07. Hard leather bags are standard on RKC's. I liked my '07 either way but thought it looked better with hard bags.

Wish I had kept that scoot.

That was very true in my case. The RKC was the only bike I've ever bought that was pre-owned and had no issues. The 2 Ultra Classic that I bought new had lots of problems.

Excellent advice!

Way too many garage queens out there not to take advantage of...

You seem to have the basics down as to what you want, so let the first owner pay for your upgrades and take the hit on depreciation. That's simply how it works.

I agree, I get emails from my Dealer with the "Used Bike Of The Week", most have low miles and appear to be decked out. That's a great way to go for your first bike, who knows, you may decide in a year or two to try another direction.

thanks guys, great info and I agree in principle. Rossmeyers has a ton of police trade ins with anywhere from 6k-15k miles. The bad part is that they are all stock so you dont get the benefit of someone else adding aftermarket stuff that you can essentially get for nothing. If I can get one 1-2 years oldwith less than 10k for <$15000 I may go for it. It wont be a RKC but I can add the spoked wheels later.

Also what year did thenew frame come out that I read allthe great reviews about used in the new touring bikes? The 103 is a 2012 addition, right? Is it the same motor that the police bikes have come with all along? If not whats different?

RKC "11 came standard with the 103",ABS, keyless security, and cruise
New touring frame came '09
Common items changed to fit you are bars, seat, and highway pegs.
Most common bar swap is to "Heritage bars", a little higher and back a little. Regular dealer request.

..agree with those saying buy used...unless there was some EARTH shattering change,(which there wasn't in the last 3 years), anything from 09 forward will serve you well,(new frame is only thing that really matters during these years), and you'll save yourself anywhere from 2K-7K depending on year and mods already done...I still have my 05 because in my opinion, there hasn't been anything changed so dramatically that I would be willing to lose about 10K just to get it,(and yes I have ridden a newer frame bike, ok but not that big a diff to me). Now, if they come out with a touring bike with 140hp, sub-woofer sound system, and water cooling...well, I'll be all over that!
