Default tbw limp mode today?

washed the bike tuesday afternoon, dried it off and pushed it onto the garage. today i want to take it, start it up let it idle while i get my jacket on, put it in gear and ride away. get to the 2nd stop sign from my house and i notice the check engine light just came on. Let out and the clutch give it some gas and the throttle isnt working. wont rev past 2000 rpms, in gear or out. got it back home, took the car to run my errands, was gone for a hour. get back home sit on the bike start it up and everything seems fine. go for a quick ride and everything is good. wtf! is this a normal? is there something wrong with the tbw? i has something of the sorts like this before, but it was more of a miss or bad hesitation. but after sitting for a hour or so it seemed to have fixed itself. no engine light that time either

I would check the wires to the throttle body. Could have gotten some water inside and the heat from the warm engine dried it out. IMHO

clean that connection and use some electrical grease and your problem will most likely go away, mine did dealer did not have a clue...

You may want to have the connecter pins on the connector to the EFI checked by the dealer. There have been reports of fretting corrosion on some 2008's and 2009's. There is a HD service bulletin on this and the dealer should fix it. I had mine go out like this. I was on a trip and all of sudden no throttle, just idle. Turned it off for a minute or so, started it up and it would run another couple of miles then nothing. Did this a few times to get to a HD dealer.

You may have gotten water in as well. Use some dielectric grease on the connector.

I had similar thing happen to me when I hit the red line. After you shut it off and start it back up it is fine. The first time it did it the engine lite stayed on. Googled it and said to check for codes. There is a way to check for codes I just don't remember the sequence ( has to do with turning the ignition on and off with some other things). My bike came up with an front cylinder miss fire. Hope this helps.

My 2011 Limited with 10,000 miles did that for the first time Saturday. Riding a couple of hours at low speed in mild temps. Stopped for a break and started back up a few minutes later and it goes into limp mode. Called dealer and they said let it sit for 10 minutes, sure enough it reset and everything was OK rest of the day. Guess I need to check the connections and possible codes too. Picked up some electrical cleaner and dielectric lube today so will try that.

Saw on another post to turn ignition on and off four times will reset but do not know if thats true. Also someone posted a link to a Harly service bulletin TT 418.
