Default Purchasing an Ultra Classic, Help!

Looking to help my dad purchase an Ultra Classic to replace his Dyna Super Glide.

I have found a bike that I believe fits the bill but was looking for input from the community to see if there is anything I should be worried about or if it seems like a good buy.

Thanks!

2006 Ultra Classic
32,000 Miles
Stage 1, Rinehart exhaust, riders backrest, lots of extras, etc, etc
Bike has gear driven cams installed
Transmission had an issue with a retaining ring falling off, transmission was completely rebuilt @ 25,000 miles
Paint is perfect
Bike is being sold because he has 5 bikes and the pole barn he was storing them in was sold, he is keeping his BMW over this.

Bike can be had for $13,000

Thanks for any input!

When I bought my SG I was not considering anything before '07 because of the tranny, they went to a 6 speed in '07 and that extra gear makes a world of difference on the highway.

Sounds nice, and the gear drive cams addressed the cam chain tensioner issue. My only concern would the tranny issue but seems like 7K is a pretty good shake down that there is nothing wrong with it. What kind of cams? Did they use a tuner for the cam upgrade or just an ecm download?

And the frame improvement in 09.

My dad isn't concerned about the bigger motor, 6 speed transmission or the better frame in 09. This is just going to be his go out, putt around and enjoy retirment bike.

Good question about cams and tuner. Seems like I always forget to ask about something.
He did mention that he just returned to Mi from a ride out to north carolina last week, ran great with no issues.

I bought an 06 ultra last spring, mostly stock but I paid $13,000 for it with only 6,000 miles and no issues. I lasted 3 months on it and bought a 2010 Ultra Limited used and a deal i could not pass up. The new frame , 103 motor and 6 speed was a hugh change. Even if just putting around town it made a big difference in even the shortest of rides. Nothing wrong with the 06 but the the Limited was my target bike all along. If you want a nice cruiser for your Dad the last thing you want to do is put him on bike with a bad trans. I say at least go newer to the 6 speed. great trans, no issues.

I appreciate all the input guys. Hopefully I don't sound ungrateful but I had hoped this wouldn't get into the pre 06 vs post 07 debate. I am just looking for info or concerns I should have about these year bikes.

He just isn't interested in spending the kind of money to get into a post 07 bike. He's not a die hard rider and 13k is what he is willing to spend to get into a touring bike. He has been more than happy with the 30,000 milea he has put on his 03 dyna and is just looking for something more comfortable.

Again, sorry if I seem rude, just would prefer any pointers or give aways that I should stay away from this specific bike.

I would buy it at that price, just make sure he had the injectors changed as per the campaign.
Newer isn't always better.
