Purchasing an Ultra Classic, Help!
#11
I bought my 01 UC from a local HD dealer. Had 35K miles, previous owner invested lots of $$ for stuff, and I paid little over 11K. Maybe to high, I'll never know. I did check with another HD dealer and was told based on milage, 11K could be very reasonable. As far as upgrades, not sure. How does it handle versus new, not sure and it's doesn't matter. The bike runs great, not the fastest horse out the gate, but I ride it like it's off the showroom floor. Figure another year or two with this one, and I'll be asking what you are.
Maybe someday my son will look for my next ride.

I appreciate all the input guys. Hopefully I don't sound ungrateful but I had hoped this wouldn't get into the pre 06 vs post 07 debate. I am just looking for info or concerns I should have about these year bikes.
He just isn't interested in spending the kind of money to get into a post 07 bike. He's not a die hard rider and 13k is what he is willing to spend to get into a touring bike. He has been more than happy with the 30,000 milea he has put on his 03 dyna and is just looking for something more comfortable.
Again, sorry if I seem rude, just would prefer any pointers or give aways that I should stay away from this specific bike.

Like birdmandave, I purchased a 2001 Ultra Classic with 33k miles. The bike had a Stage II 95" and other chrome upgrades from the original owner. When I purchased the bike I installed the Screamin Eagle Hydraulic Cam Chain Tensioners and Oil pump kit along with adjustable pushrods.
I have changed the tires, all the fluids, rebuilt the front brake reservior, and most recently replaced the drive belt and primary seals due to a puncture caused by a stone or similar. At the same time I had already assembled the parts to upgrade the Swingarm to the 2002+ design so while replacing the belt I changed out the swingarm bushings. I will have to wait for next year when I have the budget to purchase the CCE Swingarm kit.
I have also put a set of CVO Touring Pipes (late model take-offs) in place of the Bub 7's which were too loud for me.
I love the bike and plan to keep her as I don't see having the budget or justification to upgrade to a 110 CVO bike unless I wing the lottery!

My wife rides an 06 ultra that was my bike until I got an 12. It's a great bike. I did change the 8 degree injectors to 25 degree injectors. I'm also going to have to deal with the cam chain tensioners before long which is not an issue with the one your looking at. Sounds like a good deal to me.
