'09 SG exhaust mod ?
I'm about to have a set of Andrews 48h cams installed and will add a Ness Big Sucker a/c with dyno by a tuner that will be using the direct link system for my 09 stock Street Glide. I am having an indy do the cam installation with the S.E. adjustable push rods which will save a little on the labor cost. The indy says they recommend taking out the cat from the header. However, everything I read says there was no catylitic converter in the S.G. until 2010 unless the bike was made for sale in California - which mine wasn't. Is this a scam ? They say they will cut the header open, remove the "guts" and then weld the pipe back together - the theory is to remove any obstruction in the pipe. They want $120 to do this ( 2 hours shop time ). If this isn't a scam and there is something restricting the exhaust flow would I simply be better off to spend a little more money and buy the V&H headers ( or other manufacturer's product ) ?

if you have a 49 State bike, then there is no cat in the 09
the cat in the CA and some Int'l models can be located by tapping the header pipe with a pen, you will hear it about 7 inches down from the front exhaust port. ( tink, tink, tink, tink, clunk)
some non-CA dealers sell CA spec bikes, esp in a border town like Yuma AZ ( rather than carry 2 inventories of bikes)
