Oven cleaner works but what I've found works best is fine steel wool with the pipe nice and hot and the bike running. No chemicals.

Road Rub chrome cleaning stick works great and well worth the money.

I have done this and I know it works... You need easy off oven cleaner. Get the YELLOW can ....not the blue can which is fume free! Spray on and give it some time to work. Use an old credit card to scratch it off. I would not use steel wool and did not have to on my own bike. Steel wool is abrasive and I cannot see how this is the best way to go. Easy Off will chemically break down the burnt boot with no effect on the chrome and the plastic credit card will not damage the chrome either. If you let the cleaner sit long enough, burnt boot will come right off.

I'll give another vote for Road Rub. It's great stuff.

Better listen to the ones talking easy off, I have used it twice and worked like a charm both times. Last time I did use some never dull on it after the easy off just to see what it did. I took my heat shields off that the stuff was on and sprayed it on a cardboard box to keep it off the paint.

I use a product called Flitz you have to warm up the pipes and rub a small amount with a rag. I had a huge boot mark on my pipes and this stuff cleaned if off with very little effort. Just remember to warm up the pipes until it's very warm to the touch, not burning just hot.

This product does wonders on everything but stainless.
