Default Anyone else have trouble mounting Streamliner passenger floorboards??

Just got a new set of Streamliner passenger boards and am having a terrible time trying to get the insert to seat into the chrome base, AND STAY there. It keeps creeping back out. There must be some trick to this, as I have even tried using a c-clamp to get enough pressure to seat the little tabs. Still no luck.

I cant remember but i think they just sit in the pan and get tighted by the set screw. I think they are made to float in the pan to ease vibration. 1flhtk4me put mine together hopefully he remembers.

I had the same problem. Get a towel, lay it on top of the insert and hit it with a rubber mallet. They seated and have not moved since. Also, some silicone spray on the underside helps also. Once they seat, tighten the set screw.

Hi there 06.
Are you talking about the gap on the outer side of the footboard-located between the rubber insert and the metal frame of the footboard? I put a set on my 2012 SG a few weeks ago and thought the inserts were not seating in "all the way." I was told there is to be a small gap, to create cushioning. I assumed this was accurate info., but it was from local guys at the well. I have not been to local dealer to check. By the way, nice ride! I really like the looks of the Fatboy front fender on the SG.

Not the gap he's talking about...Their a bitch to seat the first time around...The rubber mallet did the trick for mine...

Think I lubed them up with a little kitchen liquid dish soap. IIRC

My bad. Yeah, to get them seated I used a few drops of dishsoap and just pushed them together with my palms. Damn near gave me carpal tunnel.

On my old Street Glide I was just coming out of a Yamaha Road Star which did have a "floating" style floorboard. So I did not seat them in, and one fell off at 80 mph (fared surprisingly well). Now with my new bike same problems. Just a bi*** to get seated tight. I will try the lube method. How would you use the rubber mallet, as they have to be mounted on the mount before the insert goes on. Do you just whack it while on the bike??

Thanks guys. I tried the combo of rubber mallet AND lubed it up , and she popped right in . The combo of lube and blunt force always works!

Did you whack it while mounted to the bike?
