Eureka! Went after this horn problem this evening to get to the bottom of the issue. Traced the wires from the horn module back into the frame. Under the saddle where all that rat's nest of wiring I found the wire has a relay and then a 20 amp fuse. The fuse was fine and as far as I could tell the relay was fine. Plenty of dialectic grease on the spades. But still no horn. Since the fuse looked good I then could only suspect that the relay was bad. But how to test? Replaced it. Horn worked. I pried the old relay open and it was full of corrosion. Shrink wrapped the new one at the connection hoping to prevent water getting to the relay. Plugged in as tight as possible, you could still see the spades so I am guessing water was leaking into the relay and eventually shorted it out.
Well I saved myself a trip to the dealer and a hefty little service bill. Thumping my chest now. Feels pretty good.
