Default So that's what buffeting feels like.

Last weekend I made a shorty windshield for my EG just for cruising around town. But I really wanted to try it out on the big road on the way to work. I live 33 miles from work and it's big 4 lane most of the way. It was about 40° this morning and I ran about 70 mph most of the time. I FROZE MY TAIL OFF. Well actually, my face froze. And now I know without a doubt what buffeting is.
On my way home, I rode anywhere from 70 to 90 mph and the buffeting was so bad I got a headache. I haven't had a headache in years.
The first thing I did when I got home was change back to my LRS Ultra. Then I installed a new set of slip-ons.
Well anyway, I love the way my bike looks with the little windshield on, but It's definitely will not make an appearance for anything but slow cruising around town.
You guys that ride with these little WS's on long trips have my respect. You're tougher than I am.

Here it is with the LRS WS.

Here's my homemade shorty.

I agree. Form follows function almost every time!

I run the LRS 6" Ultra Re-Curve now. Like it a lot!
I had the 4" HD shorty before and it was terrible.

I remember reading somewhere that installing a short windshield on a dresser actually increases 30 lbs of lift to the front end.
THe Klonk Werks low windshield supposedly does not do this.

A friend of mine had a small windshield on his '99 DWG for years without a problem until he tried to ride with us at speeds above 75MPH.
He thought his front wheel was out of balance until I convinced him to take the w/s off. He had to admit that it was indeed the w/s causing his issues.

That would never happen on a Road Glide.

You just found out what I learned several years ago. It only took me a 30 mile ride to go home and change back to stock.

That's exactly why there are so many windshield posts from those that own Street Glides and Road Glide Customs - 4'' stock windshield are worthless. They all want to know which company has the best windshield to prevent wind buffeting. I did the same thing when I had my Street Glide. Most of the time, "cool'' will lose out and "functional" will win.
