Default tender killed batterys?

I have a 08 ultra that I bought new I have used a harley tender on at all times and it has went through a battery every 9 to 12 months, the dealer always installed new battery and checked out charging system, so I just thought that was how long they last, but then I hooked up that tender to my dirt bike and in a short time that battery went out. So now I am wondering if that tender may have caused those other batteries it go out. Is there any way to check out a tender to see if it is working ok?

Still have the original battery in my 08 SG at 37k miles. Stays on the tender when I'm not riding. Sounds like a problem with your tender.

I don't know of any way to test it, but I'd ditch that particular tender and get one of these.

My bike never goes more than 3 or 4 days without being ridden. Usually every day. Love Ca. weather. Have never used a tender and never had a battery problem. Knock on wood.

dumb tenders will kill agm batteries...you need an inteligent one...it cuts on and off and changes the charge rate. the bumb ones are basically HO train power supplies that put out a constant voltage and current.

Give Tender a call and explain to them. Sure they can answer this a lot better than us dummies.

I concur, I always give my tenders a 60 question minimum written test. If they don't pass, they don't get hooked up to my bike.

I suspect your tender has something to do with it.
Does the battery and/or tender get warm if it has been hooked up for a while?
It shouldn't.
I ride most days from March-November and only hook up the tender if the bike has been or is going to be unused for a few weeks (December-February).

..batteries should not be charged constantly...once in a while is all it needs...can never understand why guys charge batteries everyday...I'm on my original battery, and I have an 05!..7 years now!!!...I "tender" it maybe 6 times a year...
