Scratched Paint - HELP!
My left saddlebag lid got scratched a couple of weeks ago, and I'm about to try to fix it, before I have it painted and/or replace it. Does anyone know how much clearcoat these things have, my plan is to wetsand the area then buff it out. Below are some pics.
Thanks,

Stop!
Looks to me like the majority of the "scratches" I saw were surface scratches. When they are white, like yours, it meens that the top layer (clear coat) is scratched. THIS CAN USUALLY BE POLISHED OUT WITH A DECENT SCRATCH REMOVER such as Turtle Wax scratch and swirl remover.
Three types of scratches -
surface - newer vehicles with clear coat scratch white
paint deep - can be repaired with touch-up paint and clear coat
below surface scratch - requires filler or more extensive body work

My buddy was able to get about 95% of everything out via wet sanding and polishing / buffing. He was not comfortable sanding anymore than he did. All in all, I am very pleased with the results. As a bonus, we also buffed my fenders, the other bag, and my ferring, so it all looks like new.
