Hope They are both doing better today.
ABS, yes.
I has 2 rear tire blow outs in 3 days at 80 mph.
Both on relatively straight pieces of Interstate
at that speed you have a long time to think about what is going on
in the first case ( 2000 miles on tire) I could not tell if it were F or R that went as I was busy trying to stay upright and not get pegged by traffic- I really could not feel which was the problem as I eased on the F and R brakes ( clutch pulled)- as when I went on the front brake the bike would go sideways,
I was able to get the 4 ways on and my Pal got behind me, blocking traffic while I worked to the shoulder.
3 days later same thing ( faulty new tire install, about 600 miles on it)- and since i had rehearsed I was in better shape to handle it.
ABS would have allowed me to slow and stop much quicker and safer.

I had a close call last week with the front brake locking and the bike going down. I released the front brake and it came back up in time to steer around the stalled car in front of me. I stated in a separate thread how I am regretting not getting the ABS. Hoping for a quick recovery for your friend.
