mndemohead,
I think you got a fair deal, in fact you got a bike with all new stuff, bonus on the wheels, I would say you ended up even at least. Hope you don't have problems out of the new one and you probably won't unless they were built on the same day.

Does anyone know what a dealer pays for a bike? With the extended warranty, guitars and some other things I can thin of, there is usually a 100% mark up so the store pays 1/2 of MSRP. I believe in furniture and jewelry, the mark-ups can be much greater. That list pprice would be anywhere from 3 to 5 times what the dealer pays.
A motorcycle dealer is in a unique position in that in most parts of the US, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, and other places there is usually a period of anywhere from 4 to 6 months and then a 3 to 4 month period in the spring and fall where they are kinda busy and then about a 4 month period where they are just swamped. All of this time, even when there's snow on the ground and little or no business, they have to keep the doors open and pay a staff and mechanics if they want to retain good people.
It seems to me that it might not be out of line for a dealer to pay 50% to 60% of MSRP. Does anyone know what kind of a markup there is on a bike.
I was looking at Honda 750 Shadows for a friend recently. The dealers around here were pretty adamant...MSRP $6495. No deals and very little attention paid to the customer. I checked out CycleTrader and there was a dealer on there about 150 miles from me that was advertising the heck out of them for $5195. And I seriously that they were selling at anything close to a break even let alone a loss.

I have been following your battle with the dealership from it's inception here at HDF. mndemohead, sounds like you stayed the course and won the battle, with only minor casualties, $500. The good guys win, yes that's what we needed to hear.
Good to hear you were able to exchange for the new scoot and it sounds like you are happy with the end result. Now get out there and put some miles on your new ride.
Sorry you had to experience this ordeal but I enjoyed following your battle, thanks for sharing it, glad you won.

actually the moco did nothing for me at all. They take no reponsibility for this at all. They even sent reps to look at the bike and they admit they are stumped, but yet the dealer paid for the bike and the moco will not buy it back nor help the dealer with cost of getting me into the new ride. Harleys customer service is absolutely horrible. I got lucky, got a great dealer, If the dealers had the same attitude that the moco has, there is no way I would every buy another h.d. hopefully they realise us customers buying the bikes are the life blood of the moco, I would guess that if too many people are treated the way I was by the moco they will be in trouble down the road.

Glad they took care of you. I think you were treated fairly, and I think the MoCo did what they could. Basically, $500 to reset the clock...
