Highway Peg Mounting Kit Installation Question

Highway Peg Mounting Kit Installation Question
p/n are 50829-07A and 50576-05. I've done the forum search but couldn't find the answer. Is there any film/sheet/cushion thin enough that I can use to protect the engine guard from scratches when mounting the clamp mount? Also, when footpegs are not in use, do they pivot up or away? If yes, do they pivot from the joint where they are attached (clevis area) to the long-angled arm? Is it possible to engage/disengage footpegs just with some foot action?
Since both arm and clamp mount have a "cogged face", am I correct to conclude that it does not allow for pivoting when mounted?
Thank you all for your assistance.

Just make sure the bars and clamps are very clean before assembling and you should be fine.
When trading in my 09, I removed the highway pegs and found no mark at all on the bars.
The pivot direction I used was to fold back. My thinking is, with the highway pegs being the widest part of the bike, if I were to brush against an object while riding, they would simply fold back and cause no other chain of events.
