Here is a suggestion that worked really well for me the last two times I went to Sturgis.

I left my truck and trailer parked at the Rapid City airport. Pulled in, got my ticket, parked the trailer, unloaded the bike, left the truck and trailer and rode out on the bike, handed my ticket to the cashier, total cost $1.50.

Came back a week later on the bike, got a new ticket, loaded the bike into the trailer and left the airport parking lot paying another $1.50 with the NEW ticket.

Total storage cost for a week in a locked, guarded, well-lighted parking lot was $3.00.

Maybe there is a local airport near your Denver destination where you can do the same?

Default Denver Storage Lots

I am trailering to Denver next month from Maryland. I have made my arrangements with a friend to park my truck/trailer at his place, but I also had a PLAN "B" to use http://www.centennialstorageltd.com/ storage lot. They have different locations and there are other places around Denver to do the same, but I thought this place was reasonable. So if my friend's wife vetoed my PLAN "A" I was going to rent using PLAN "B".

A secure place to leave everything as well as 24/7 access in case you need to get something you left in the truck. That was my plan.

Good Luck and I hope you enjoy your trip as much as I plan on enjoying mine! Touring all over Colorado and eastern Utah this trip.

Regards,
Ben

Thanks for the response guys. I have heard from others about the motel parking, think I will try that. Thinking of starting at Colorado Springs and circle out from there. As far as the RIDE IT crew, not to p/o the Iowa & Nebraska folks, 4 times across is enough. Besides my vest is totally full of " I rode mine" patches. I guess I could start on bumper stickers. 😳

While I always like riding, going through Nebraska, Kansas (and I live in Kansas) and Eastern Colorado is not much fun and it gets real hot (100+ deg F with 30+ mph winds) in the summertime. You may think the wind should feel good, but at the temp it just feels like a blast furnace. Most of the time it is blowing from the south so you will have a strong cross wind which is not fun either, especially with semi's heading east. I have done enough riding in KS to know about this very well.

I would say trailer (and yes you will make better time due to the heat, etc.) if you are on a time limit and your goal is to do riding in Colorado. Ask the hotel you are staying at to leave your vehicle/trailer there for a while. I have never seen any hotel refuse it yet.

I do not know how much time you have but you can make a loop, going from Denver area (take the Peak to Peak hwy) to Rocky Mtn Nat Park, out the west side of the park, through Steamboat springs to Dinosaur, south to Grand Junction and then to Moab(take the road from I-70 around the east side of Arches it is an amazing rd), UT. Visit the Arches and Canyonlands National Park, then swing back to the 4-corners, Mesa Verde Nat Park, Durango, to Royal Gorge, to Colorado Springs, visit Garden of the Gods and Pikes Peak. Then back to Denver.

Hope that helps.

I live just outside of Colorado Springs, just off Hwy 24. If you need a place to park, I have 2.5 acres. Safe area. If anyone is interested, pm me.

Not sure if you are a Moose Lodge member (I am ) or any other lodge group but may of them will let you park in there lots. Moose has a very active riders group and understands this need as well as RV parking. Buddy just arranged a trip south and parked at a lodge in Georgia.

Have done the same 3 different times. We rode the bikes all the way the fourth time, about 4500 miles by the time we got home. We always went the last week in July and came home the first week of August. Riding across Oklahoma, Kansas or Nebraska really really really really sucks that time of year. Not that I wouldn't do it again, but my lovely bride of 37 years says I will do it without her! Late July is a good time for Colorado IMO. We always had good weather except for maybe one day out of 10. Getting out there from here that time of year is a hot, miserable ride however. So next time we will stick it in the trailer and I'll blame it on her!
