Default Garage door opener...

Hi Guys,
I am wiring my garage door opener to a push button switch...T he only trouble is I keep draining the batteries in the garage door opener...it does not make sense, just soldering a couple of wires on the back, should do that..Plus there is no contact with the switch or the door would open....
Any ideas..Thanks Brummie

Check and make sure it's a "Momentary" switch, and not an On/Off switch

Harley sells the switch that they use for the odometer for about $13, works great. I drilled a hole in my console for it.

Yes, I know and understand that. I'm just wondering if he installed the "incorrect" switch when he did his.

I installed the 71764-07 HD Switch for my opener. This switch lists for $25 and it was $20 with HD 20% Off Day. Here are a few pics.

Bought a waterproof momentary switch with boot for 12 bucks at Graingers. Works great.

I just velcroed my opener to the lower right hand part of the fairing, works just fine.

Guys, the OP says that he is having trouble with his Opener Batteries going dead, since he hooked up a switch to it. I think it's possible he has the "wrong" type of switch installed, and it may not be a Momentary Type Switch.
