Default Kickstand angle/position on Road King

The kickstand on my Road King has me wondering if it's set correctly. I'm used to the kickstand point of contact with the surface being further forward than where it currently is on my bike. I keep thinking the bike is just going to roll forward and fall over. Attached is a pic. Is this normal?

One way to test it, is to leave the bike leaning on the side stand with transmission in neutral.
Now get a good firm grip to help balance the bike, push it forward.

The side stand "should" just scrap along the floor and not collapse.
Do not lean the bike back to an upright position while doing this though.
Without the bike weight on the stand, it will not be in a "locked" position.

If you look underneath, there's a tab of metal that the stand contacts. When there's weight on the bike, when it rolls forward, the stand should hit the stand and keep it from coming up. I've never heard of a bike rolling off the stand.

I got into the habit of leaving my bike in gear when I kill the motor, been doing it that way for over 40 years. It keeps the amount of roll to a minimum.

+1 on the gear thing. My 09 RKC kickstand has that same look as the OP and it make me feel a little un easy about it, oh well.

Check the locking tab on top of the kickstand. They can get loose and cause the kickstand to have excessive fore and aft movement. Can also break off and let the stand fold up if the bike rolls forward. And yes, mine is upside down for a reason. Stand has been modded to set the bike up straighter since it has a 21 front.

+3...get in a habit of always leaving the bike in gear when you dismount. Limits travel and really helps when on uneven ground. The other habit that is good to develop is to always squeeze in the clutch when starting the bike. If you do these two things every time you park and start, you will not have any surprises.

DuraGlide, what's involved in that modification? I'm in the same boat with a 21 and a heavy lean...
