Default what's the deal with larger front wheels?

I see lots of guysdoing 21 inch front wheels. They look awesome. Is this part of a style or tradition or just preference? Does it impact handling? Just a curious newbie...thanks.

Like the beach ball back tires of a few years ago, this too will pass.

mohawks, nose rings, tribal paint schemes, riders wearing scull face masks ( WTF?)...

handling is not positively enhanced by a 21".
suspension travel is reduced, unsprung weight can be increased, poor fender choice can result in poor aesthetics.

it's a fashion- like OCC bikes, show bikes don't get used much, but some riders take styling cues from these to the street

Default There's no such thing...

There isn't any 21" wheels out there, it's the regular front wheel with the person running a space saver rear because he got a flat a while ago.

I like my 21" don't plan on changing it. corners well. the only thing I feel differ is picking it up off the kickstand other then that to me is all the same. some hate them some don't. my stealer won't work on my bike due to the 21" front do I care. hell no because it's what I want. just a recommendation don't knock them tell you have road one for a few miles.

You are probably lucky, not impressed with those guys.

I had some shoddy work done by them

There has been a big debate on this forum about the handling of the 21" tires on the front. Some pro some con, but test have shown that the larger 21" tire does improve handling.

Not is the time when all the nay say'er will come out and post their cons.

Isn't the 21 about lowering the look of the rear? There's also the air ride posts here (Iinstalled on my bike) that creates the same affect, . . Correct?

It was Dicky's idea! :-)

I've run 16,17,18, and 21 fronts. All have pros and cons, but I like the handling better with the 21 at low speed than the smaller wheels. More nimble with less effort. Some like the smaller wheels- I find smaller front wheels want to track straighter at slow speed but you feel much more stable at the same time.
You better stay in shape if your going to lift a heavy bike off a stock kickstand all day with a 21 unless you lower the front. I've left mine up and now I don't scrape the boards all the time anymore thanks to the clearance, so I might just keep it high.
