Default Rewiring '09 King after bar change

Made a few calls today about the cost of Heritage style bars for my '09 King. Found the common price to be $79.99. Sounds about right to me but wanted to know what some of you guys thought first.

Second, started reading article in this tread https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...g-classic.html After reading the whole thing I realized the article was written for an '02 King. How does the process differ on my '09 with the TBW? My bike does have cruise, so that is something else wiring wise to be considered. I'm not afraid of turning a wrench and actually enjoy it, but I'm not very fond of messing with electrical stuff. I'm just trying to see if I can save myself a few hundred bucks on installation. Hope you guys have the answers.

If your bars are set for internal wiring you won't have to change a thing. When you do the electrical, it can be a little tricky changing the wires on he plugs, it's not that difficult. All you need is a paper clip! The tbw will be a slight pain to pull thru, just use some of that easy pull stuff electricians use and you'll be fine.

I do recomend having a manual around, and write down the color codes accordingly for the wires. I did my 09 king with Wild 1's knuckle bars and it took me about 4 hrs total, and I took my time and focused, no rush. Anyway I hope this helps. Ride hard and ride safe.

Heritage bars are not internally wired. No need to disassemble the molex plugs...The job is SIMPLE...The hardest part is taking apart the nacelle and there is a short cut to that. 2 hour job at the worst...

Something else I didn't see in the article is anything about keeping your grips. I've already changed them out and line them. Any thoughts there.

I was able to save the grips on every newer set I have done. Should not be a problem at all.

Some methods that I've used are spaying some sort of solvent down between the grip and bar on the clutch side grip, letting it sit for a while, and then beginning to work it off. Sometimes, compressed air can help too. I don't know that there's a failsafe way to get the grip off every time. I've had some that come right off and others that never come off.

I redid my bars completely went with wild 1s 16".I had to rewire the whole thing, Some of the Harley Grips are not glued on. You will find out when start taking the bars apart. If they are glued you can try GOO Gone, it breaks down most adhesives. Good luck with the bars and follow the manual.

Buy a manual and do it yourself. You need a manual anyway.

I used WD-40 and a hair dryer to remove my grips. Took about ten minutes.
