Default Why doesn't part number 91216-97 fit an 06 Road Glide?

I do not get it.

When I look at the MoCo website under Racks and Rails at the Chrome Saddlebag Guards (91216-97) it says, "Fits '97-later FLHT, FLHR and '98-'03 FLTR models. (Does not fit '98-later FLHRCI, FLHRS '02-'03 FLHRSEI, '06-later FLHX or Saddlebag Kit P/N 90544-97.) ": http://www.harley-davidson.com/gma/g...bmLocale=en_US

What is the difference between the back end of the E Glides and Road Kings that will make this part fit on them and not on a Road Glide or a Street Glide?? I thought the back ends of all 06 touring bikes were the same.

04 & later RG's do not have saddlebag crashbars, nor do SG's. You can add them if you want.

I bought a set for my 07 Road Glide after talking to parts counter guys. We couldn't figure out why they wouldn't fit. Brought them home and started to install them and........... they don't fit [:@]. The top part hits the rear mounted bracket for the saddlebag (not by much though). I could have ground a small cut-out and they would have fit but decided not to and took them back.

Saw another Road Glide with them on and they werenotched out to fit. They looked great.

PS...It doesn't have anything to do with the crashbar (I had those added on my Roadie)

Guess I'll try to find a cheap set on eBay and shop 'em!

GB,

I looked at your post again and realized that you're talking about the saddlebag guard. I was ***uming you were talking about thegap fillers that go between the bags and the bike.

Sorry my Bad.

I know that. But will they fit? The MoCo website says no. Has anyone here installed number 91216-97 on a 06 or 07 Road Glide or Street Glide?

Silly me....

If you add the rear crashbars, then those should work...

I bought the comfort profile bars (49088-01)and a set of rails on ebay and put them on my 2005 Road Glide. Fit perfectly. I don't think anything changed from 05 to 06 that would affect the guards.

Thanks for the info.

I looked up #49087-01

Fits '97-later FLHR, FLTR, FLHX and FLHT models. FLHRCI models require separate purchase of Reflector P/Ns 59370-98 and 59371-98. '04-later FLTR, FLHX and FLHRS models require separate purchase of P/Ns 49194-85 and 90781-93 and two each of P/Ns 3601 and 7686. (Will not fit Saddlebag Guard Bags.)

Did you have to buy the P/Ns 49194-85 and 90781-93 and two each of P/Ns 3601 and 7686 or did it fit without them?

P/Ns 49194-85 and 90781-93 are the supports for the saddlebag. 3601 is the screw that attaches the saddlebag support to the guard and 7686 is the locknut that secures the screw (3601). These came with the set I got on ebay and they are necessary as the saddlebag supports you have attach to the frame where the bottom of the guard attaches. I believe that 49087-01 is the guard without the holes for the rails. 49088-01 has the holes for the rails. Since the comfort profile fit perfectly, I don't see why there would be a problem with the standard guards.
