I've had some work done to my bike. FM107 and they put in a stiffer spring or plate. I've been told not to use a synthetic oil for my primary as it may be to slick and begin to slip! What would be a good alternative NON SYNTHETIC Primary oil that i could use in the Tranny as well? I just don't want 19 different bottles of oil laying around. Thanks for any feedback!

The general consensus is to use a quality synthetic gear lube in the tranny and a synthetic or non synthetic motor oil in the primary. The guys on here run anything from 10w40 to 20w50 motor oil with no friction modifiers in the primary (the friction modifiers are usually added for better fuel economy in autos but they're not good for wet clutches like those found in motorcycles) I've found that running a quality non synthetic oil in the primary works well as long as you change it frequently, usually 5000 miles or so. HD Formula Plus in the primary, Mobil-1 75-140 in the trany, Mobil-1 20-50 in the engine. That only 3 different bottles.

 

Ran Bel Ray Primary oil then switched to Mobil 1 Racing 4T 10w-40.

Really liked the way the Bel Ray felt, much smoother and seemed to be more positive engagement.

I just put the 98A spring in my bike and switched back to the Bel Ray Primary oil. Clutch engagement is back to feeling like it did before.

Bel Ray makes great lubricants. Plus the Bel Ray Primary oil is red, if you get a leak its easy to tell if its the primary or not.

 

Cheap *** rotella 15w-40 has the JASO stamp safe for wet clutches. It's what I use in my primary

 

For me it's

HD formula plus in the primary

Redline heavy in Trans

None of it is cheap, might as well get what works best. Otherwise, next thing is to find an oil that also works as a hair gel too.

 

I've been using Rotella 15-50 non synthetic oil in my primary. It's Jaso-MA suitable for wet clutch applications and its used in diesel engines and we all know what kinda punishment those engines take. It's inexpensive and I change it out with the motor oil.
