This is a good thread..at least for me. In past summers riding my metrics I just wore ear buds & Iphone in the jacket. Which I really got used to. Make a stop and just jump of bike nothing to put away & iphone is with me.

New FLHX with a sizable build and the OL has put a stop to the spending. I haven't got to the stereo. So I am just going with the first suggestion with cables and will do what Garemlin has suggested probably next summer. Months of research & I believe that is the best way to go. I don't believe in doing things half assed. Some of these other methods cost a couple of hundred, may as well just go the full distance and do it right.

Like must of the guys on here say "I wish I had done this earlier" Whether is it is cams, seats, windshield etc why try to reinvent the wheel. I just like to learn from the more experienced guys.

But I do wish Sony would make their tray able to fit an Iphone 4 & Otter box. Love that otter case and not taking it off the phone. I guess I'll just get an Ipod and leave it in there when I get a new stereo.

Has any one else sold their original HK stereo like Garemlin. I am scared to bank on selling it....don't understand why anyone would buy them, when you can get better stereo for a cheaper price.

Sorry for length just had a nap & coffee.

Keep in mind that with the Sony head units with the tune tray you can also use a thumb drive instead of an iPod.You can pick up a 16gb thumb drive pretty cheap.

I got the Motorcycle iPod Holder and Mount by Gunslinger Motorcycle Tours, LLC for $34.99 and used a cheap audio cable to connect it right to the audio jack on the radio. Works great and you can reach the iPod controls with you hand.

Picked up a RAM mount for my iPhone 4 just the other day off of Amazon. Check here:

http://www.ram-mount.com/Products/Mo...t.aspx#/wizard

You can pick out the stuff you need\want for you bike, and either order directly from them, or from somewhere like Amazon. I saved a few buck, plus free shipping and no tax with Amazon, and am very happy with the product. It's built well, and stable as hell on the bike. (Total cost was right around $30)

Other than the mount, I picked up a coil\bungie type cable to run form the phone to the aux jack and a "mini" cig lighter adapter at the Apple store for those long rides when charging is needed. The thing sits flush in the lighter jack, and doesn't bump the tank or anything even with the forks turned hard left.

I'm really enjoying the tunes plus GPS options this mount is allowing me on the bike combined with the iPhone 4.

There are many that have FLHT models without a radio that just want a basic radio. Nothing fancy. There are others trying to replace theirs that want to stay stock. Trust me even though there are a ton of aftermarket options, there is a market for gently used HK radios.

For a really simple way of mounting iPod - and it looks really nice too - you might want to check out http://www.leadermotorcycle.com/CTGY/a-tilt.html
