Really wish I'd have bought a street glide
Not that I don't love my Wide Glide, but I see some long hauls in my near future. I have a good friend who happens to live like 6 hours away from me and we desperately want to see each other and I know come summer I'm gonna make most of the trips up there on my bike. Not sure how that long of a ride will go on a Wide Glide, but I'm gonna have to find out. I've see some trade in prices on here on a few like new 06's and there's no way I can afford to loose 7-8 grand. live and learn I guess.

One of the guys at work has this philosophy - make your first Harley an Ultra - 'cause that's what everyone ends up with anyway - LOL - I feel the same way - even though I love my Road King and even though I'd get a pretty "good" deal (I work for my local dealer) - I love the RK and would hate to lose thousands of dollars. Tough reality.

lp is right. Get a quick release windshield and some after-market "throw over" bags for the trip. You can take them off when you get there. You can justify the purchase because "you are trying to see if you'll like a bagger" without spending $20K. Just think how much you'll save.

Only 6 hours?? I'll do that in an afternoon with no particular place to go.
My Street Bob is a close relative of the Wide Glide and I "commute" from Florida to Ohio several times a year to visit with my youngest son and his family.
As others have stated, the Dyna makes a great road bike without much expense.
I replaced the stock seat with a Sundowner, added highway pegs and a Memphis Shades quick-detach windshield.
I strap on a T-Bag and I'm good-to-go for the 1100 miles to/from Ohio over two days.
With very little help, your Wide Glide will be a very capable road bike.
