Engine stalling periodically(speed sensor fail?)
I need some advice please. I have a 2003 FLHTI, two days ago I was riding to work and noticed that my turn signals were not auto canceling sometimes. When I pulled into the parking lot I came to a stop sign and the bike was idling really low and wanting to die. I gave it some gas and took off, I then went to pull in to motorcycle parking lot and when I pulled in the clutch and the revs came down the bike did die. I hit the start button and it fired up and idled fine. I got home that night and cleaned the speed sensor and the IAC. Speed sensor had a bunch of metal crap on it and I got a bunch of black crud out of th IAC. I rode again today and it was doing the same thing sporadically. I am thinking it could be the speed sensor going out on me baised on what I have read about them failing. I have 2 out of the 3 symptoms of a bad speed sensor(turn signals not canceling and idle probs) but have not seen any problems with the speedo not reading correctly. What do y'all think about this?

Had then same problem yesterday with my 2011 SG. A group of us went on a ride yesterday and after a few hours of riding we came to a stop light. Took of from the light and I noticed no speedo. Also noticed turn signals not canceling so we pull into a gas station to check things out. when I pulled in the clutch the bike died. Pulled the side cover off and checked fuses and all was fine. After a few minutes of head scratching I wondered if it was the sensor. Started the bike and it idled fine. So said screw it and headed for home as we were still about 75 miles from there. Bike ran fine and everything worked all the way home. Still going take it in have have it checked as it's under warranty.

I have heard of a few people having a problem with the wiring to the injectors on the 88's. At some point there was a factory wire-tie that was pinching the wires a bit too tight and after so much rubbing together the insulation wears away, starts with an intermittent problem like you speak of, and progressively gets worse. If I remember correctly (sorry) I believe that this wire-tie is near the injectors like right there under the tank, but am not 100%.
Sorry to be so vague about this, but it was a while back that this was going around. Good luck to you, sorry to hear about your troubles!!

This is prolly no help but had same issues on my bike, but they occurred after a really fast launch. Kill the ignition would work fine until another hard launch. Been 10k plus miles since then and ain't had anymore trouble even with some serious playin around..... never fixed or checked the sensor and guess I won't until problems start back.

Update, I finally got some time to work on the bike and I did replace the speed sensor. I took the bike out sat for the first time and the first couple stops the bike idled low but then started idling correct at a stop after a while of riding. I rode about 100 miles sat afternoon and it was good every time I stopped. The turn signals are also working correctly now. Hopefully I got er fixed for good. Thanks for the help!
