tail light wiring issues...why is this so hard

I have an 09 FLHTP. I am turning it into a street glide. I got a great deal on a set of 2010 fenders and an 08 tail light setup so I am trying to make it work...but running into all sorts of issues. My goal is to get the tail light setup as a 2010 RTB light bar.
Right now, I have the wiring harness that comes out under the seat, the Tri Bar light that has an input and output, and the light bar (currently with orange lights and smoke lenses) with cut wires and no harness clips.
I spent an hour and a half at the dealership watching the parts guy drool out the side of his mouth trying to understand/figure out what I was doing.
Looking at a stock 12 FLHX, what I see is that the tail lights are actually powered from the tri bar light, which has a small wiring harness running along the left side of the fender (assuming it runs under the seat to a similar/same wiring harness under the seat).
Looking at the parts fiche, I cannot find the wire that is supposed to run from under the seat to the tribar light.
I would really be OK with the tribar light not working. If it comes down to hacking up the stock FLHT tail light wiring harness, I will do that, but there has to be a better solution...is there anyone out there who has dealt with this?

Until 2010 or '11, the tri-bar LED was connected to the tour pak harness on SG's--the tour pak harness is on your bike and probably still coiled up under the left side cover. Uncoil the tour pak harness; run it back to the rear; and, plug in the tri-bar connector and you'll be good to go.

the chorus says "get the manual"
it'll keep you from tearing your hair out
( and for a cop bike, you should also get the supplements)
the wiring for the rear is:
blue run
red brake
black ground
the color coding to the signals has changed over the years
violet/brown stripe are the wires going TO the signals from the tailight wiring block. ( with black as ground)
the wires to the wiring block are violet ( right) and brown ( left)
since you are doing a custom install:
start at the rear connector under the seat and work your way back, laying out what you what/need.
then wire it up in place on the bike
