All these suggestions that justify new parts purchases makes me kinda wish it was my inner fairing that I damaged. I could easily justify a painted inner fairing purchase due to damage of the stock one. LOL

I really appreciate you pointing out your mistake of cutting corners. I just bought my first SG and will always remember your pics and story when I remove my bags. Thanks for sharing and saving me from the same mistake someday. Also, good luck and wish you a speedy recovery with your spinal surgery.

Been there, done that. Two week ago I had the bags off to install the new air wing lid rails. I took insane measures to protect the finish when working on them. Holes drilled perfectly and rails went on smoothly. Job done without a scratch to either bags. I went for a test ride and made it seven miles before the left bag FELL OFF at 65 mph. Sigh...2012 Ultra Limited with 3k miles.
Comprehensive policy has $100 deductible. Quote for new bag, lid and rail and usinging my hinges and hardware: $713.
I'm an idiot for not getting the pins seated when installing the bag.

It just adds character! But if it really bothers you I'll trade you my 08 straight across!
Tip: Lay some old carpet pieces on the floor in your garage/shop.

Thanks for the generous offer but I will pass at this time. LOL

And stated in a previous post above this was just one of those times I wasn't careful. I have an old thick comforter that I lay out on the floor to set my bags and side covers on when they are off. I do this 99.8% of the time. The .2% bit me in the ***.

I have these & you'll be pleased w/the looks & functionality. Easy install/removal (for cleaning) & not bulky @ all.

You know we've all done these bonehead things...you're one of the few who are man enough to admit it & thanks because this way everyone benefits. Usually the 1st bike blemish is a small one (key/tool drop, boot scrape, etc.) so you're banked for awhile w/future blemishes.

One note - another member designed this bag holder & I haven't built mine yet (have materials), but it's going to come in handy when needed. Enjoy!
