Default Can I install new front speakers myself? Tell me how please.

I got new speakers (front) for my Ultra from the wife for Christmas.

Is the install hard? I've never had the front batwing off.

Can you "step-by-step it" for me?.......or is a long hard job?

Want to do SOMETHING myslelf on this bike....lol.

Thanks in advance.

put a towel on the fender, put thick socks over spot lights.

remove 3 screws and remove windscreen and any added trim piece or fairing pouch thingy- put the center screw back in place, lightly.

remove the 4 screws on the inner fairing ( 1 each side outward and slightly below speakers, the other 2 below the switch cap)

the fairing is now held by the single windscreen screw you put back in.

do you have a padded place to put the fairing down on ?

holding the fairing in place, remove center screw.

with both hands work it towards you and reach in to unplug the headlight. ( this is a nice step to get your wife involved)

put it down.

speakers in front of you.

if you have oversize speakers that use adapter rings, use a file to cut a weep hole so rain or wash water isn't held against the speaker and can drain downwards

torque value on the screws for install is 25~30 inch pounds

The factory manual spells it out pretty good too!

After you get all the screws removed and the windshield off, the fairing comes off just like this. Unplug the headlight and you're ready to remove the old speakers. You should just be able to swap them out. If you don't have a torque wrench then just tech manual 1-1-me and just torque it down so she don't come loose. Repeat the steps to put it back together and ops check. Cheers.

Taking the front of your fairing off is super easy.

I did mine yesterday, and then showed my wife, so she could be super impressed with my technical abilities. I didn't mention that it was a total of 7 screws (t-27's I think.) It took me maybe 5 minutes all together.

I had to pull a little, to get mine to pop from the seal around the windshield and on the sides. I was expecting it to just fall off, so I was being super cautious.

It's probably a "2.5" on a 1-10 scale.

The hardest part of the whole job is the 2 lower fairing screws and reaching in to unplug the headlamp.

If the bike is on a lift table and the front forks are straight ahead those lower screws can be a pain in the *** to get to, but if you can turn the forks it's much easier.

Go to this website and click on "installation". It'll bring up pictures with step-by-step directions on fairing removal. As others have mentioned, make sure to cover your front fender and it would be a good idea to cover your passing lights if you have them.

If your new speakers are bigger than the stock ones, make sure you have an adapter ring so they'll work.
