Default DOT Helmet that doesn't make you look like a shroom head

I am looking for some advice on a DOT approved helmet that doesn't make you look like a mushroom head. I would prefer a half helmet style, but am open to suggestions. I have a turtle shell but would like more protection. Is there one out there, or am i just chasing bigfoot?

move to a "choice" State.

I have a H-D branded 1/2 helmet with a little ducktail at the rear- it is the only 1/2 I've ever had that doesn't bobble or pull up.

expensive, but comfy when I go to unfriendly territories

I've always been a fan of these guys, though they are a bit pricey: http://www.superseer.com/helmet_touring_custom.asp

I know EXACTLY what you mean!! I searched and searched for a half helmet that didn't do that. The best I could come up with is a Fulmer.

I have the same Harley helmet but here is the same helmet without the Harley tabs on the side for much less money and free shipping. HJC makes helmets for Harley. Go to your Harley dealer and try on the helmet for your size and order from here.

It does not exist IMHO.

I personally would prefer to not wear any helmet at all, but since my "Nanny" State of WA insists on enforcing an unjust law.... I've found that the following is my best option.

1. Buy a cheap DOT half helmet that is two sizes too small.

2. Keep in mind that the compressable styrofoam is almost 1 inch thick all throughout the entire helmet

3. Place upside down on a pillow or pad so as not to hurt the outer shell.

4. Use a small aluminum baseball bat (large end down) and a mini sledge hammer to evenly compress the 1 inch styrofoam padding down to about 1/4 inch.

5. Viola.... A DOT approved helmet that is low profile.
