Can anyone tell me what is the largest width wheel and tire that I can put on my Street Glide with my stock swingarm?

i have heard this as well. i just cannot see how this makes it ill handling. A 160 tire is nto wide by sportbike standards. But who knows. Most your liter sportbikes come with 190-200 rear tires. Although I alwasy switched to a 180 for handling purposes in the corners. The profile would be more round and it would go through the turnes better. But we are talkin knee draggin on the track. Never illhandling with the larger tire though. I road with 190-200 all day long and am sure your average rider would not be ableto tell.

I'd think the bagger would actually turn better having a more rounded radius on the back. Like a 160-180. If you look at our baggers now the wierd tire they got on there goes pretty much from flat to edge within an inch or two. Not great for carving but obviously it works. The 160 on my wifes street bob is huge in comparison to my bagger. And that thing handles great. Wish I could get a real 160 or 180 on my bagger without paying through the nose for it. I hate having to buy a new fender, paint etc etc. I'll probably squeeze a Metz 160 on it at the next tire change.

I've talked to several people and they all said that the 160/70-18 handled poorly on the 3 and 3.5 wheels. CFR says that they are running a 5.5 wheel with a 160 tire and it handles well though. If that's true, thats likely because the narrower wheel is causing the tire to be too rounded. If you check the Metzeler web site the recommended wheel range for a 160/70-18 is 4.25-5.00. Now as for the handling of a 160/80-16, I've nottalked to anyone on those. but the recommended wheel range is 3.5-4.5.

Thank you for the response. I bought a 21 for the front thinking that you don't see enough of the rear to matter, but now I have to get that rear. I'll probably go 150/160/18. Thanks again!

The handling problems occur because of the load rating on the tire not being sufficient for the baggers. You need at least a 76 load rating IMHO.
