Default HD or NGK spark plugs

Which spark plugs would you go with HD or NGK? When I orderd my exhaust the dealer gave me a set of NGK platinum plugs. Let me know your opinion. Thanks

For the 96" engine:

Denso Iridium Plugs (IXU22)
Gap to 0.040"

Yes, they DO make a difference (do a search, I've researched this extensively; am a pilot and raced high-performance cars, do my own wrench work)

I've been thinking about spark plugs myself lately. Both for my '03 88ci and my '10 96". I was surfing around for info and came across this on HarleyHelp.com

Since I trust the collective wisdom of the group here more than a single point of reference randomly found on the web. I'm wondering if some of you guys would comment on this guys link above? Accurate?

I've never seen a difference, multiple electrode plugs are a scam, the spark will ALWAYS take the path of least resistance straight to ONE of the electrodes.

Try some plain jane OEM plugs, side gap and index.

Indexing, definitely. I have had 2 sets of plugs that were off measure, but SWITCHING them PERFECTLY INDEXED them. This has happened TWICE, so you could get lucky and not have to hunt for indexing washers.
That article was great and had me up until he started touting the requirement for HD plugs. Not sure if I buy that antiknock feature being unavailable in other plugs because of heat range difference. My aftermarket plugs do just fine, clean themselves, and don't overheat the motor, so what else can I say? Even iridiums I have in there now are doing well.

I think indexing them is far more important than which brand or how many ground straps.

Buy the stock oem and change them every season.

I use Screaming Eagle platinum, just because they last longer....i really didn't see much performance gain....been in 40000 miles and they still look great. took the first set out at 30000 and i still have them as spares

Yea, I was all into what he had to say until he got to that part. What I understood him to say was that HD standard plugs have some kind of special resistance to them, and if the ECU (or whatever) doesn't see that resistance, it will disable the anti-knock thing. Never hard of such a deal, but why not - printer toner, batteries, heck lots of stuff has a chip or something in it these days to tell of it is using the OEM provided whatz-it. I don't know about that bit though. Unfortunately, when I read a head-scratcher like that, to me, it puts everything the guy says into question.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread, we were talking 3rd part plugs... hope I didn't do a forum-fubar.
