Default Another Tire Question?

I'm getting ready to buy a new rear tire, and currently am running a stock size tire (MU90B16), Dunlop E-3. I would like to run a bigger tire, such as the 160/80-16. Does anyone know if a 160 size tire will fit on an 07 Ultra Classic? I'm thinking it has 3 inch rims.

Thanks,

SugsPa

The widest tyre a 3" rim will take is a 150/80, which compares with the 140/85 that your MU is. I have one with an 07 rear end in my 1990 Glide, with the narrow belt your bike has, so it should fit with no problems. It is not wise IMHO to fit a wider tyre to your stock wheel.

I do have however a Deuce rear wheel I plan trying to fit! It is 4.5" x 17" and will take a 160/70 or 170/60 tyre. I don't reckon a 170 will fit the bike, but I have my fingers crossed that a 160 will just squeak in! I reckon tyre to belt clearance will be close, as also will fender clearance. Those are the things that will make or break.

There is a thread on HDF about doing this, by Rodman, although he modified his fender to use a 170 tyre.

The actual width of tires are brand dependent also. Actual width can vary by the load rating of the tire within a specific brand too, like Metz ME 880's for example. The best source I have found for info is on Dennis Kirk's site, they show spec's on just about every tire they sell.

it's less to do with your rim width.... and (as gr said) more to do with clearance of the swing arm, and belt.....140 is about as wide as you can go, I believe, but you may have to trim the belt guard.

Maybe more than you would want to take on but because you have an '07, it is relatively easy and inexpensive to get a 180mm tire mounted on your bike. It was a winter project for me that I am just finishing up. Just need to fit the new fender. To see how...click the link below.

150 is the widest you can do.

The E3 in 160/80 fit on my 07 FLHTPI just fine. The Avon Venom in 150 was wider than the E3 I think this has to do with the shoulder design
