Default slider replacement

So, I'm about done replacing my sliders. Followed VooDoo 13's killer write-up. See https://www.hdforums.com/forum/tri-g...+swap+write-up. He left off on adding new oil, and that's where my question comes. I had planned to fill the forks while the bike is still on the lift, with no front tire. Others have reported that using top fill method you need to fill slowly and pump the forks between fills. How do you pump when the bike's on a lift? I can grab the slider and get it to move about an inch, but that's not pumping. Off course, if I remove the 6 mm bolt holding the slider to the damper the sliders move a lot (and the oil runs out).

Do I need to install the tire and get the bike on the ground to fill the forks?

Thanks
