Default zumo 665

I recently purchased the zumo 665 and signed up for the free 90 subscription. I went to try the weather but couldn't find the icon. Manual says to hit "tools" and then "weather". I don't have a "weather" icon. Help.

You may need to contact XM again and have them activate the NavWeather. Not sure if that is part of the 90 day free trial.

i just grabbed my 665 off my bike, and the Weather icon disappeared. so make sure your XM antenna is plugged in.
The first day i got the bike home i noticed XM did not work, it was because the dealer never installed the XM antenna, not a big deal, but i did have to pull the fairing

the xm is working, just no weather icon. Checking the zumo forums this happened back in late '10, early '11. Guys were having to go in the files and delete the .wxd files and the icon would come back. I couldn't find those files and would have thought it would have been corrected by now. Some were saying xm had to re-initiate their contract. I contacted Garmin and waiting on their relpy. I would have thought since it was a free 90 day trial they would have wanted you experience the whole thing in hopes of keeping you for the signup. BTW, they don't contact you at the end of 90 days, they just start billing you so I would expect it to be included.

Default zumo 665 installation

I just installed the zumu 665 with dash mount and radio harness and NIM. I see no advantage of using the harness and NIM. Per the HD instructions I still had to use the aux input in the front of the radio. I added the 5 wires to the back radio connector and all other connections. I see no difference in operation than I had by using it on my handlebars and using the cig lighter as a power source. $150 for harness with no improvement? Thanks for your input.

BTW I have a 2011 FLHTCU

It's only the HD Road Tech Zumo 665 that benefits from the NIM; a non-HD Zumo 665 gets no benefit from the NIM.

Perfect, I guess I didn't do enough research. I bought a non HD version because I needed it quickly and all I found said there was no difference. I guess there is no way to upgrade the software in mine to take advantage? I can't believe there is a hardwrae difference. Thanks

Many folks have made the same discovery; the NIM only works with the Road Tech Zumo.

The only benefit of the NIM, by the way, is that the voice prompts will interrupt any music source selected on the HK head unit--w/o the NIM even the HD version only provides voice prompts if the AUX source is selected and the AUX cable connected to the HK. If you want to use the XM or other audio features of the 665, you still need to use the AUX input.

As for a software mod to the non-HD Zumo, I haven't seen any reported.

That solves that problem. Thanks again. For all others making the same mistake, the dash mount is worth getting but do no buy the HD harness.

I had my 665 on the handlebars of my '07 but upgraded to the dash mount when I traded in for the '10 - never again <lol>

In the dash mount, if the sun is behind you - especially over your left shoulder - the gps is unreadable due to sun glare, and none of the glare shields work if the sun is low enough. At least the position of the gps was adjusable in the handlebar mount, not fixed like in the dash mount.
