Default PCV and O2 Sensors

Got a head scratcher for you all. After researching PCV and this forum, I see you are suppose to disconnect the O2 sensors from the pipes, or unplug them from their harness. My buddy has a 2011 Ultra he just bought, with PCV and O2 sensors still in use. The bike runs like a champ! Obviously this is possible, even tho the instructions say to unplug. Could it be possible it is running 2 maps, and and the one map bypasses the sensors, unless you flip it over to the other map? He has put 500 miles on it since he has had it, and no problems. Someone out there must know how this is possible. Thanks!

Either he is running an autotune system from Dyno Jet,OR the O2 sensors are not connected to the plug under the right side panel. Just because they remain installed in the header means nothing. The PCV alone does not utilize O2 sensors.

The stock O2 sensors are small, narrow-band sensors on the 2010 and above. Suggest if you desire to stay closed loop, which is a very good place to live, consider these three products:

-Revolution Performance EMS
-Zippers Thundermax
-PC V with Autotune

Do a little research. Each of them have certain characteristics I will not go into here, but you can see which one I have in my signature.

I know it is still connected at the harness, so he must have had autotune with it. Like I said, it runs well. Is there a benefit to running an auto tune?

Just got off phone with him, no autotune, and harness still connected. Anyone else... know why this works?

If he failed to follow the install instructions for the PCV (disconnect the narrow band sensors), then he is probably not getting the advantages of the PCV unit. Call Fuel Moto and ask jamie or Keith what happens when they remain connected. You may do your friend a favor.

The O2 sensors being connected are probably bringing the calibration back to where the stock values were, negating the offsets that the PCV is applying.

Im a bit confused now also having installed a stage kit from FM using a PCV. I do not recall anywhere in the set up instructions or talking with Jamie in regard to bypassing 02 sensors. Or for the purpose of this discussion are we talking about installation with a new header pipe??

It says right in the directions for the PCV to either leave the sensors in the pipe and disconnect them under the side cover or remove the O2 sensors and plug the holes. I opted to reinstall the O2 sensors in my new headpipe, route the wires back into the side cover, but disconnect them. I figure if I ever have a problem with the power commander, I can unplug it, plug the 02 sensors in and be back to almost a stock configuration.

Go to the Power Vision Thread to get your answer.

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/elect...admin-186.html

There are plenty of PV gurus on there that would know the answer.
