Default Question about neutral indicator light?

Today it was about 64 degrees so I went for a ride in my 2012 FLHX that has 1400 miles. I noticed that the green neutral indicator light on the dash would illuminate when I was in gear at times while the bike was in gear & moving down the road. It did this several times today, sometimes it would just stay on at times. Confused?.....

HD had problems with the netural switches back in 2007. Mine was doing just about the same thing as yours. I had it replaced & no more problems.

Check the trans end cover housing bolts, particularly the bolts that capture the trans exhaust hanger.

OK I will ask, Why, or what would those have to do with the N light coming on?

Thanks, but I am no bike mechanic, I just ride em. Sounds like a trip to the dealer for a repair covered under warranty.....

I was also thinking warranty. I know mine a couple of years ago started doing that and after replacing it, (the neutral sensor switch) it has been fine. One of the biggest bummers about it is that you can't use cruise control when the bike thinks you are in neutral. Let us know what ya learn please

I'll keep you posted! Suppost to be in the 50's for the weekend here! If it does it again it's going right to the dealer to get fixed!

The neutral switch is a very short throw detent plunger switch that mounts in the trans housing but activates off the trans shift shaft, if the end cover bolts are loose, the gearset can float within the housing enough to tweak the switch contact with the shaft. The exhaust hanger bolts commonly come loose, and that can be enough to let the gearset shift a little. I found this problem after I bought a new switch, so now I own two good switches, can't return electrical stuff. This may or may not be the OPs issue, but it's easy to check the bolts for tightness and eliminate it as a possibility.

Good deal, glad it turned out to be a simple fix.
