The Road King wobble was covered recently, and a contributing factor was the rear shock absorbers. If the membrane separating the oil from the air was damaged and they mixed then the damping became uneven on each side of the bike. This would cause a constant twisting motion of the swingarm. Check out the link. This man only discovered this because he was going to change a rear tyre. If you spot it in time it could save your life.

Actually makes perfect sense if you look at it, the entire weight of the rear suspension rests on those two little pieces of metal above and below the axle. Just a broken part waiting to happen. '01-up models have the shocks located forward of the axle.
