Default Help! Outer primary cover

I'm having issues getting the outer primary cover off to install the se compensator. Removed all screws ect.. I dont want to wreck things by prying in between the cover and case. Rubber mallet hasn't worked either. Any help or ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Place a block of soft wood like a piece of 2x4 against the chome on the top edge of the cover and give it a hard whack with the rubber mallot. Move the block and whack it again. The cover should break free and if you're careful, it won't mar the chrome.

..sounds stupid, but double-check that you took EVERY fastener off, get down close to the ground and look along the bottom of the cover to make sure you didn't skip one of the allen bolts....

Yep! Broke an intake manifold on my chevy once because I missed one bolt! Had a 4 foot pry bar on that sucker.

It looks like there was some white sealer used. I can see it throught the derby hole. Tried the block of wood. Last thing I want to do is break something... They dont use any sealent from the factory I take it? I have no idea why someone would have taken the outer off. Bike had 8000 miles on it when I bought it. Motor was stock. Boooo

No sealer from the factory- just a gasket. Maybe you can take a razor blade and carefully cut through at the seam all the way around? You'll need to clean all that sealant off and replace the gasket...and figure out why sealant was used in the first place.

If they got liquid teflon in the dowel holes it will take some extra force to pop it off. I would use a heal bar through the derby cover to pop it off.
