Default Stereo question from opposite direction

Recently got the detailed HK guide mailed through to me (refer current thread where this is a hot topic) and skimmed through it.

Without going in to the why's and wherefores (personally I am happy with the HK headset and yes, I do take my music seriously) what I wanted to know was....

For all those changing the headset out, do you then lose the functionality of reading DTC's and the other valuable troubleshooting info you can access through the HK screen?

If that is the case, then I would certainly never consider changing it out

Yes and No. DTCs for the bike (ECM) are read through the odometer. The HK radio has it's own diagnostic funtions and the radio DTCs are read directly through the HK head unit.

You don't need the radio diagnostics if you replace it and you do not lose the ECM diagnostics. No reason not to get a new head unit, which is what I assume you mean by headset.
